LAMA Watch – New Database for Live Action Manga Adaptations

Industry Databases

When a manga series reaches a certain level of popularity, it can often be adapted into different mediums. While an animated version of a manga series can be well-known worldwide, there are often lots of Live Action adaptations in the form of TV series or movies that are made. Over the last decade these live action adaptations are becoming more accessible on streaming platforms outside of Japan. However they often receive little promotion from these platforms and can often get overlooked.

As our first “spin-off” website from Manga Properties, we’ve created a brand new website/database called LAMA Watch! LAMA standing for “Live Action Manga Adaptations”. You can visit the site right now and dig through the entire database. If you just want updates when new series/movies are released in English you can check out our social media feeds as well:

The database has over 300 titles that are currently available for streaming in English right now from official sources. The goal is to provide easy access to where you can support these adaptations and provide some basic information about the series to know if you are getting the full story and what the manga it is based on. Many of these manga series do not have official English releases, so watching this live action adaptation can be a good way for you to experience that story.

While having a spin-off website by the same owners, doesn’t mean that updates won’t still happen here. Both Manga Properties and LAMA Watch will both function independently, and more updates on Manga Properties will be coming next week. Our updates on this site were a bit delayed in April and May was so that we could launch LAMA Watch with a fairly complete database at launch. That project was a bit too big to fit as database in Manga Properties, but started from the same core ethos.

The work put into LAMA Watch will also come back to support Manga Properties in the future as well. Using this new database, we can even further expand on our Netflix Streaming Numbers database for titles we may have missed. As part of the research for LAMA Watch, we also collected a bunch of information about various manga magazines. We’re not sure how that will help us on future Manga Properties projects yet, but having more information available can help whatever that project may be!

This may not be our only spin-off website from Manga Properties. There is another concept that is at a much larger scale than LAMA Watch is. So LAMA Watch was in a way a “proof of concept” on what that larger project may be in the future. But before we can get to that, we are going to continue to spend the next several months working on more of the core Manga Properties projects that we have started. So please look forward to those, and follow along on LAMA Watch for more information about Live Action Adaptations from manga series!
